Synapsis

aerial collective

The Synapsis Aerial Collective is dedicated to the aerial arts. Our areas of specialty include the static trapeze (single and doubles) and the tissu (aerial silk/fabric). We regularly offer classes and workshops in beginning and intermediate aerial skills.

Arial collectiveSeveral members of Synapsis Aerial Collective are available to perform at festivals, clubs, parties, and private events. Please contact Synapsis if you are interested in working with us.

Synapsis Aerial Collective also hosts on ongoing open training/skills exchange. Every Sunday from 7-10pm, the studio is open for practice time for those who have a basic training in the aerial arts. Aerialists can participate for $6 drop-in fee. Monthly passes (or for 4 consecutive sessions) $20.

Training

A few more details about open training sessions…

Open training is not meant to replace training offered in classes and workshops, rather it is a way to refine and develop what you already know while working on form, strength, and technique. There are a few minimum requirements for participating in open training:

Tissue/Fabric/Silk:
*must know single foot-lock, double foot-lock, how to climb, and four tricks

Static Trapeze:
*must know proper grip, hollow body position, pike up/knee hang/big swing/sitting on bar, standing up, and four tricks

Other Equipment (Lyra, Straps…):
*must have at least two lessons/workshops with a trained professional

Even if you have these skills, participation depends on the approval of current core members of aerial collective.  (A core member is someone who has been a member for six months or more).

*A skills test may be required before you join or within the first month of joining.

Aerial training is lots of fun and an exciting way of spending time with other aerialists.  Please remember, though, that if you want to engage in lengthy social conversation it is best to take it outside the training space so that you do not disturb the people in the air.

Because there are a limited number of aerial apparatus, please be aware of rotating between the apparatus and taking stretching/floor-conditioning breaks to allow everyone to have equal turns for training. Also, there will be folks of varying skill levels practicing at the same time. Sometimes those with a more advanced skill level will be willing to assist those at a more beginning level, but please respect that they may also want to focus on their own training. It is always best to wait until someone is on the floor and not in the middle of practicing to ask a question. However, if you have a lot of questions, it is better to schedule a lesson with a qualified person rather than use open training time to have an unplanned lesson.

Stretching conditioning and strength training are fundamental components of practice time. It is in your interest to refine the skills you have rather than continually learn new tricks. If you cannot remember and do what you have already learned safely and solidly, it is best to practice this before learning something new. The satisfaction of doing something really well is worth it!

Thanks, we hope you enjoy!
