How much should I charge for my time in making a custom, high quality costume?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under costume | 1 Comment »

I have been asked to make costumes, from mangas or animes or movies and stories and when I make a costume I spend a long time making sure I have every detail, colors right, hidden pocket, pleats and such. I won’t give the costumes away, but I wanted to know what I should charge for one, materials and time? How much should I charge per hour? Is there a usual rate?

Would anyone be interested in a custom costume? Just wondering if there was any interest at all.

If I were you, taking alot of time to make specialty costumes, I would at least charge around 150 or so…
I just don’t know what is considered cheap and expensive in the costume department. But if you really do spend the time doing it to make it perfect, then charge higher, for your sake.

I want to go trick or treating on halloween so I can get candy for Jack and receive presents from him,
but I can’t seem to figure out where to buy a costume.
Where can I go to buy a costume that people will actually know is a costume? I have a pumpkin head, but that doesn’t seem to work.
Do I have to go back to a certain date to find the costume? Please help!

You will have to wait until next October.

Whats the difference between cosplay and costume?

Posted by admin on February 1st, 2010 and filed under costume | 4 Comments »

I know cosplay is like dressing up as a character from books, shows, movies, etc. But, couldn’t costume be the same as cosplay? Or are they completely different? And how so?

And sorry if this is in the wrong category, I didn’t know which one to put it in!

Cosplay:
It is a word that has it’s root in costume play. It is both a noun and a verb. Cosplay can mean the actual costume, as well as the action of wearing it
Contrary to popular belief, many cosplayers (well over 98%) do not believe they are the characters they are "cosplaying" as. Cosplays are typically worn to anime conventions.
Its a hobby, many cosplayers take pride in the fact that they can take a 2D character and turn it into a 3D character that they themselves can act as. Making the actually cosplay costume is a big factor too instead of just buying a Halloween costume from a store.
People would say its a way to show off your sewing skills.

I would say Cosplaying is a sub category of of costume with a lot more meaning.
Wearing a costume can be Halloween or just dressing in general.

What should I dress up as for a costume party?

Posted by admin on January 23rd, 2010 and filed under costume | 7 Comments »

I am attending a costume party this weekend and I need to get a costume together! Since it’s not halloween time there arent many costumes out at the stores, and I plan on keeping it economical and trying to find the pieces of my costume at a thrift store. Im 20 years old. I was thinking of either being a harajuku girl, or a chick from Rock of Love with Bret Michaels. Any other ideas of costumes I could easily put together myself or that would be cute?

You can be a go-go girl or a flower child from the 70’s. Just look at what you have in your closet and think of something that you can put together and just accessories with stuff from a craft store. Sometimes, what you already have at home that you just put together ends up being more clever.

Hi

For me nothing says cute more than something like a Butterfly Costume :-)

There are some ideas here http://www.squidoo.com/butterflyhalloweencostumes on making a Butterfly costume and also some links to enable you to buy a ready made one.

Hope you enjoy this Halloween!

Take care

There’s a catch – I am a guy and I have been challenged to dress in a woman’s costume! What would be the best one and what items will be needed for it. I want to try to win the prize for the best costume so I want to look as realistic as possible. I thought of secretary or air hostess but what do you think?

Air hostess is a good idea. Here are some more:
- nurse
- waitress
- Showgirl
