How do you start to learn guitar?

Posted by admin on December 16th, 2009 and filed under learn | 16 Comments »

I am going to start to learn to play the electric guitar after Christmas (self-teaching). Where can I see the chords or songs to base my learning off of?

Casey…. If you have no prior music training, I suggest you find a qualified guitar instructor. You may be able to teach yourself, but there are things that you just cant learn from a book or on your own. You probably should start with an acoustic then progress to the electric, but that is just a matter of opinion. What is important is that you invest in a guitar that is of good to excellent quality. Please don’t try to learn with one of those k-mart or wal-mart pieces of sh!t. They really fret hard and cause extremely sore fingers, and will do nothing but discourage you from learning.Go to a music shop and pick one out with the help of a professional. Get one that will stay in tune longer than after the first strum on it.

How easy is it to learn to play the ukulele?

Is the ukulele an easy instrument to learn? I know it’ll take some patience and attention- but I really want to learn to play it.

Any tips or pointers?

It’s not difficult at all. The strings are lighter than on a guitar, so they are easier to finger. Check out the links below for FREE lessons! Ric

How do you learn to dance without paying for lessons?

I want to learn hip hop, but I don’t want to go to lessons yet. I have no experience, but I’ve wanted to learn for a while. Any tips?

i am a ballet dancer who started when i was 10. i had no experience, but i wanted to learn, so i talked to the madamoiselle & we came up with an agreement that i would help her with a preschool class for 2 hrs a week, and my lessons would be free. so after a few weeks of my own lessons, i helped with the 3&4 year olds. at first my duties were limited to bathroom and drink breaks with the kids while she continued to teach, setting up, putting mats & shoes away, and helping them get ready for thier parents to pick them up. later, i began to fill in for her while she spoke with parents, and helping to demonstrate & correct thier posture, footings, etc. now i am able to run the classes for her if i need to, up to the age 12 group. i am being payed 50$for helping out 6 hrs a week, and my lessons are still free. so i reccomend talking to the dance teacher & asking her if you can work things out. if not, try going to a smaller dance school, where they will be more willing to work out problems with thier potential customers. good luck!

If you learn to play the acoustic guitar, do you need to start all over again to learn the bass?

Posted by admin on November 17th, 2009 and filed under learn | 9 Comments »

I plan to learn how to play the acoustic guitar but I want to play other guitars, mostly the bass and funk guitar. Do you need to learn all over again? How different, except for structure and sound are guitars?

Not very different at all. The main difference between an acoustic guitar and an electric bass is the way that you strike the strings in the right hand. On an acoustic, you can strum with your fingers, or more commonly with a pick; on the bass, however, you generally pluck the strings upward- no "strum" is involved, usually. The left hand (or hand that’s on the guitar neck, fretting the notes), is acting on the same premises that it always does. It may take some time for your left hand to acclimate to the width and weight of the bass strings, but the techniques between guitars are very similar.

Funk guitar is slightly different: while you still strum and and fret essentially the same way, the chord shapes and rhythms involved can be considerably more complex at first glance. Essentially- they’re just harder, lol. But, to answer your question completely: all guitars are played, really, with the same faculties. You strum strings, you fret notes, and you use a variety of techniques to effect the tone or quality of the sound. Depending on the style you choose, yes, you may have to learn some new techniques (Classical and Flamingo guitar take a considerable amount of finger dexterity, for instance), but most techniques are transferable to other guitars; furthermore, every style you pick up will become easier and easier because of the similarities. You can, for instance, perform "hammer-ons" and "pull-offs" on an acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, mandolin, banjo, lute, etc, lol. Hopefully that answers some of your questions?

How do I start to learn how to Hip Hop dance?

Posted by admin on November 14th, 2009 and filed under learn | 4 Comments »

Where should I start to learn how to Hip Hop dance without going to a dance studio? I want to learn how to pop and lock, glide, wave, and other types of Hip Hop dancing all on my own. I want to look up videos online and learn from them but I don’t know where to start.

random guy 77, you are off to an excellent start by realizing you have choices. To avoid making a fool of myself I always tried out my dancing in front of a full length mirror. DVD’s are a great place to look for style and function in the privacy of your home. If you live in a large city go and watch the street talent and try to emulate their movements. Be original though and throw in something that only you have dreamed up and sets you apart from the crowd! It sounds like you have talent it is just the execution of the moves that you need help. You would be surprised to know that dance studios give you some building blocks of maneuvers that will catapult your talent. When you get the moves down just practice, practice, practice,,and you will be a very popular, envied talent that other people will try to pattern after. Many people do not give credit to the fantastic athlete who has the moxie to perform Hip Hop – it is very complicated. Ask DVD rental employees what movies have good Hip Hop dance in them because the news travels fast when a good movie includes magnificent performances of Hip Hop! Hey when you become the next uber Hip Hop performer please reserve me an autograph.

Why is it important to learn the history of your own culture?

Posted by admin on November 5th, 2009 and filed under learn | 3 Comments »

I need to write a paragraph for homework on why it’s important to learn about the history of your own culture. I need at least three good reasons.

Also, if i want to earn an A, which i do, i need another paragraph on why it’s important to learn about other cultures history. I need at least three good reasons for that too. I just cant think tonight and need a little help please.

"The Grand" stated it eloquently. To add to that, I would say that it is a part of your heritage, something you will always have with you, that no one can take from you. You will always be a part of that family, no matter what your present circumstances are. You belong. That can’t change. You will never lose it, nor can it ever be taken from you.

If you don’t know about your culture, you don’t fully know who you are; you don’t know about your "family" , or how special you, coming from such a rich heritage, and that is sad.

When you learn other cultures,it gives you another perspective on life and other ways of thinking. It gives you greater understanding of the world, and considering other points of view. It enriches your life when you take that knowledge and adopt some of it to your life; foods, clothing, ceremonies, beliefs, celebrations. You have then added to the diversity and richness of your life. (For example you may be Italian, but love Mexican food, and the colorful clothing.)

For example, even thought I am not related to our forebearers of the Revolutionary War era. But I am well-read enough about their sacrifices and unparalleded contributions to appreciate them and to realize that they did this not just for themselves, but more for all of posterity. They didn’t even know us, but they wanted security and liberty for us. I love them for what they did. That’s my family. No one can ever take that from me. I am rich in that knowledge. Now that is not an ethic cultural, but it is an American culture, based on life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. (Because of that pride in my "family", I became one of them…as a Revolutionary War reenactor. It has greatly enriched my life.)

I also have an ethnic background of 3 nationalities, and that is interesting as well to compare different ways of life, thinking, and doing.
I have pride in each of their cultures; I belong to those ethnic families. I know who I am, and I have something no one can take from me: A culturally rich heritage.

I want to learn how to play the sax but I have no music background, where should I start?

Posted by admin on November 1st, 2009 and filed under learn | 6 Comments »

When I was a kid, I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the sax but I never had the time or money back then. Now that I do have time and money, I’m thinking of studying how to play the sax at my home. But the thing is I have absolutely no music background, I don’t even know how to read notes.

Is there any website that could help me start learning? Also, is it possible to learn how to play the sax by home-study given my predicament?

The best thing to do is to start taking lessons. You’ll be a lot better off doing that considering you have no musical backround.
