How to fight a tae kwon do blackbelt in a competition?

There’s a ufc type fight club competition I’m in. I’m mainly a stand-up boxing type fighter. I don’t really know how to use locks and holds and stuff, but I do know how to throw good hard punches on my feet, and a few basic kicks. What are some tips I could use when fighting a black belt Tae Kwon Do master? It’s pretty much like a street brawl with no weapons, and no serious injuries, but still some ahrd hits.

Ok this is an easy if they are an AMERICAN TKD person.

70% of the time or more they LOVE to kick to the face and leave them selves WIDE open to a leg sweep dragon tail style.

I have taken so many TKD americans down this way and i have a 1st degree in TKD also but Kenpo and Shotokan are my main styles.

So take control of the ring. First thing is score a point as fast as possible and get the lead. DONT go backwards when they say GO MOVE FORWARD! and hit him as fast as you can off the line!!!

if you get the point them make him come to you, and set the pace for the fight. remember they will love to kick a lot which wastes a lot of energy and if they are behind in points they will make mistakes rushing to catch up. DONT RUN but circle the ring and make him come to you and counter where you can always. Use the lights and the locale of judges so they can see your and not see him and the crowd is in his eyes not yours.

There is a few tips for you!!

best of luck!

  1. TKD is well known for it’s kicks. Since you’re a boxer, stay real close, use hooks (especially lefts) and uppercuts, don’t give him the space to unleash his legs. Keep the fight in the range you’re the best at, clinch up if you have to and punch from there. Good luck!

  3. This match could get ugly.
    Here is some advise:

High ranking TKD guys have "great hands",be careful
Any "low" kick is a distraction
it will go – Low to High and right for your head.
TKD guys can change stance,(left/right),very fast
If he does this "twice" the third may be a spinning back kick to your mid section.or a spinning heel kick for your head.
Expect a lot of kicks, especially high ones

    Good luck
Let us know how things went.

  5. Stay close, keep the pressure, keep pushing him back and keep him off balance. Also keep your hands up like you should know, just keep the pressure dont give them space

  8. When someone likes to kick, grapple and use hand strikes. Fight with what your opponent doesn’t know. Chances are if someone knows how to kick they know how to block and counter kicks.

Your best option is also to get in close. They’ll probably try to push you back and kick but don’t let them. If you’re a puncher and they’re a kick, fight on your terms. Up close and with the hands. Their kicks will have no where near the strength if they’re left to kick with the thighs or knee area. If they do try to knee it can hut but respond by blocking.

Block hard. With your elbow. Against their thigh… It is too a block!

  9. Ahhh hate to see the TKD guy go down, but here’s how… As a TKD guy, if I were to fight a boxer,, it would be basic front kicks and side kicks, in between your guard, so keep it tight in the middle (be cautious of round house and reverd hook kicks, but you should see them from a mile away) , also a boxing stance leave much of your weight on your front foot , so a steady diet of thrust kicks, and roundhouse kicks all over you lead leg,… I have limited knowledge of boxing, but did train for a few months, and currently taking Muay Thia… but as a boxer, I would fight a TKD guy, at his distance or a little farther out, making him feel comfortable to kick, but make him miss or it could be lights out (this would stop the chance of the leg kicks) and when he goes for the big kick and misses (because you move so well) that is the perfect opportunity to get inside (a TKD guy throws very hard punches, but blocks punching combinations very poorly) so throw a four punch combo, and make the last 2 count!… be careful, because he will be out of his element for the most part, but we do train with knees and elbows, and he will be doing whatever he can to create distance…. please dont relax outside of the boxing range (it is a habit boxers get since they dont have to worry about kicks), because that is when his eyes will light up…. if you arent winning at standing up (and it will be difficult) take his ass down, and just go with your natural instincts, for the most part it will be 50/50… and if you are very good at your "few basic kicks", that is all you need, but dont try to have a kicking contest with him… I hope with the kicks you learned you got some kick defense training as well… good luck man.. wish you the best

I take Tae Kwon Do so here is a little help.
Stay close,TKD is mostly kicks and to kick ya gotta be at a distance so stay close and start punching with this:
Jab to the head, then a cross to the head, then an uppercut to the head, then a hook to the head and a frontal kick(obviously to the body). The frontal kick will give him distance but if done properly it should make his tummy hurt a little. Now close in(again)but this time side kick to the tummy then continous roundkicks to the body and then a roundkick to the head for a K.O.
keep repeating and if you can make the combos better then PERFECT.
