It’s the roots of every romantic language, learn it, and you’ll see the many similarities of the romantic languages.

  6. A culture is not …
A culture is not transferred merely by one’s being born in the same nation as his ancestors (compare ancient and modern Egypt), but must be handed on from generation to generation. Latin dominates a preponderance of Western cultural heritage, and as such, the study of Latin is not only a lesson in thought par excellence, but also a formative excercise in becoming a true heir to our civilization. Perhaps this one can stay.

    “Benefits both mind …
“Benefits both mind and soul”… okay.
I really don’t how studying it does that, but whatever, you don’t have to answer just go ahead and delete your English response, dude.

Traduxi.

  11. If you know English …
If you know English, you know a little latin. If you know English and French, you know more latin. If you know English, French, and Spanish, you know quite a bit of latin. Latin is alive and well, it’s just moved in and made itself at home in the languages we speak today.

    Latin is a dead …
Latin is a dead language, I don’t really get why people study it, it’s not like you will find someone on the street to whom to speak latin with.

    Hic sermo iucundus …
Hic sermo iucundus magnopere me delectavit. Macte virtute! :)

    Perspective, I …
Perspective, I think. Learning Latin, as learning any language will do, forces one to think differently. Some of this comes from the structure of the language itself, some from the lessons of culture and history that come with it. It probably won’t get you a job or a date, but you will see your own language, culture, society, and country differently than before. At least, I know that I do. In an age of mass media, the option of a different view is valuable, if only to maintain one’s sanity.

  21. It greatly opens up …
It greatly opens up a perspective on history, and you will be able to see through the eyes of the original authors. But very few people know Latin in Vatican City. This may change in the near future. Latin is far more than christianity. Science used to be in Latin.

  22. I never mean to …
I never mean to offend anybody and not saying this intending to the orator, but seriously, what benefits does learning Latin have besides living in the Vatican City?
