Traditional Latin Mass: Feast of the Sacred Heart

Traditional Latin Mass filmed on the Feast of the Sacred Heart in the small chapel of the International Seminary of Saint Cure d’Ars, Flavigny, France, in 1999. The seminary is the Society of Saint Pius X’s second European seminary. Typically seminarians spend their first year of spiritually there before leaving for Ecône, Switzerland, to complete their training.

The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass with Gregorian chant and polyphonic motets. Some local customs take place during the Mass. For example, birettas are not worn and the Domini Non Sum Dignus is recited aloud by all present. More astute listeners might also notice the French pronunciation, which is perhaps not the ideal.

This film has been available on the Internet for quite some time encoded in a very low quality format. I have encoded the video here from an original source at the highest quality possible given the size restrictions at Youtube. Unfortunately this has resulted in a slightly blurred picture and mono sound rather than stereo. Apart from the addition of captions, the film remains unchanged.

  1. Jesus used many …
    Jesus used many metaphors…not here.
While Jesus said he was the bread of life, he went a step further there in John 6: “Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood” This caused many to turn away.

Jesus said “this is”, not this represents. Paul makes it clear to the Corinthians that it is the body of the Lord. The Reformation is when the symbolic tense was used.
The priest does that which was done from the start. NOT a power play.

    I am one of those!

  3. the same reason why …
the same reason why there is a flood of evangelicals that are converting to the Catholic faith. with the easy access of the internet, they are discovering what Catholics have always known. we have the fullness of truth, being the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic faith, as Christ intended. and as promised the gates of will not prevail against it, even against heretics and schismatics.

  4. as i said before. …
as i said before. go read to see what the early Christians believed. they were the ones who received the fullness of truth directly from the Apostles. and the Apostles received it directly after the Pentecost. are u suggesting it a mere coincidence that the early churches had the same liturgical format, the same sense of a sacrificial mass? thats just a big coincidence to u? the eastern orthodoxy, the churches of asia-minor that St Paul himself founded? Catholic church included?

  5. Jesus was speaking …
Jesus was speaking of His own body being the sacrifice on the cross! Just like they didn’t understand when Jesus refered to His body as being a temple and if they destroy it He would build it up in 3 days!! He’s the Bread of life come down from heaven..No priest has power to call Jesus off his throne seated at the right had of the Father to come back down here to change Him into bread! that’s all for power..it’s you that is just like the scribes and pharises..

  6. yep, you could say …
yep, you could say that. .but u c we have something to dance, sing and shout abouat..we’re saved! ….no one in the early church did anything like the mass show..name an apostle that wore vestments and carried a monstrance and had altar boys and candles and performed the hocus pocus transubstantiation?…it’s all nonsense and for show!!

  7. your continuation …
your continuation shows u to be even more blind. u say u honor Jesus as the bread, yet u dont follow his commandments regarding that same bread? you’re just as confused as the scribes and pharises and unbelievers at the time. they didnt understand either how his flesh and blood are real food and drink. the Apostles did, so did their followers. Which is why ancient churchs dating back to Apostolic times honors a sacrifice of mass. Catholics included.

  8. if all u see is a ” …
if all u see is a “show” then your own ignorance has blinded u. the liturgy and sacrifice of the mass has been handed down from the earliest Christians, who received it from the Apostles and Disciples. Preserved in both sacred text and tradition to the earliest church fathers, unto today. Learn and read what the first Christians believed, learn and read what they understood worship to be. i could easily say protestant “services” are a show. jumping around, ranting and raving wild & crazy.

  9. jesus christ monkey …
jesus christ monkey balls, what a sermon

  10. all i see is a show …
all i see is a show that says “look at us we have the power and if you don’t do what we say then your going to .” I believe in Jesus and that HE”S the BREAD. but I don’t believe priest have some power to change a wafer into Jesus..because the bread remains bread.

  11. 6:30 Absolutely …
6:30 Absolutely beautiful Kyrie. Wish I could hear that some time.

this is NOT a show; it is the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass. If you are looking for a show, try Broadway.

I agree…. composed by an Italian abbot, Giuseppe Baini… I have searched for a CD but no luck. This version of Panis Angelicus is extraordinary.

The solo Epistle 12:56 is so beautiful.

Thank you QB. Apparently someone did not appreciate our opinions. I actually enjoyed reading through the comments on this video–most were very peaceful.

My thoughts on the quiet Mass as opposed to the modern mass were merely opinions of mine. The one place we should be able to find quiet, and yes, silence is the Church. Even our news channels have become ”entertainment” outlets. Sometimes ….we all need to …..just be.

  19. what?
    what?

  20. Plus, you insult St …
Plus, you insult St. Thomas with what you said, and you are obviously an ecumenical Novus Ordinarian.

  21. You don’t even …
You don’t even understand Church teaching. You probably don’t even know what a dogma is, for if you DID know what a dogma is, you would know dogmas are truths fallen from Heaven that are revealed by God, and proposed by the Church to be believed as such.

No salvation outside the Catholic Church is a dogma, a truth fallen from Heaven, but you don’t care anyways, you reject this and you question it, so how are you not a heretic?

  22. You couldn’t be …
    You couldn’t be more wrong:

St. Robert Bellarmine, De Romano Pontifice, II, 30:
for men are not bound, or able to read hearts; but when they see that someone is a heretic by his external works, they judge him to be a heretic pure and simple, and condemn him as a heretic.

Me lacking fear of the Lord? lt is you, for you don’t even believe in Him.

  24. well spoken my …
well spoken my friend. most people have lost the appreciation for quiet dignity, and quiet reflection in prayer. im glad u pointed that out. Pax †

  25. We are so …
We are so accustomed to noise, chaos, and wordly matters that the sounds of silence seem foreign, hence the new Mass and it’s attempts to drown this beautiful quiet Mass.
Thank you for posting this. Makes you ponder how we ever lived without the Latin Missa. Pax Christi.
