Why does the bible say the earth never moves when it does move?
The earth turns in circles and sometimes even tilts in certain directions as seasons pass. But the bible says the earth never moves and just stays still.
Psalms 93:1
The Lord reigns; he is robbed in majesty; the lord is robbed, he is girded with strength. Yea, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
Psalms 96:10
Say among the nations, "The Lord reigns! Yea, the world is established, it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity."
Why?
Science has been proving it wrong for a long time. As the study of evolution has also shown flaws in the bible.
The bible was written by a series of religious folk, who at the time didn’t know the earth was not the center of the universe.
because the authors knew no better

certain words have multiple translations and word plays. understand that the bible is pretty old. words evolve and mean different things over time. i get the impression that in this context, the word moved could be taken as changed, overpowered….a few different things. there are a lot of words in each language that don’t have direct translations, so the closest thing is substituted.

I believe the interpretation should be that the earth is placed in the universe in its position with the other planets and such and it will never be moved from that location (the 3rd planet). It doesn’t say it won’t spin or tilt, only that it will not be moved.

"I have set the LORD always before me: because [he is] at my right hand, I shall not be moved." (Psalms 16:8) Does this therefore mean that David would literally stand still forever? Of course not. The phrase is referring to the concept of establishment and abiding presence, not physical translation.

When in the sixties people were singing the protest song "We shall not be movedf," did that mean that somebody had set their feet in concrete so that they literally could not be moved?
If poetic licence is allowed to a 1960’s lyricist, why isn’t it allowed to a psalmist in the Bible, or is that a silly question?

You’re kidding right? It’s poetry.
The author wasn’t saying that the earth doesn’t rotate. He wasn’t saying anything of science. And you know that.
The author was saying that the world is established and solid in its foundation. That the Lord has control of it.
It’s poetry. The whole damn book of Psalms is poetry. I’m not a Christian and this was a silly question.

Those verses never say or imply that the Earth doesn’t revolve or rotate. However, this passage does imply that the Earth’s revolutions and rotations cannot be changed because they are established.
Another consideration is the Bible sometimes appears to refer to a moving sun and stationary earth simply because all motion must be described with respect to a reference frame.
For earthbound people, the earth is a convenient reference frame. After all, when drivers see a speed limit sign of 100 , they know perfectly well that it means 100 relative to the ground, not the sun! So it is absurd to attack the Biblical writers for doing the same when describing how the Sun appears to move or how the earth appears to be fixed.
Engineering and nautical astronomers, even now, for some applications, use earth as a reference frame, at the centre of a great celestial sphere. The Biblical writers were merely using convenient phenomenological language, just like modern day people who refer to ‘sunset’ and ‘sunrise’ when the sun does not really set or rise.
