Synapsis

west end cultural forum

West End ParadeSynapsis is located in the heart of Eureka’s West End. This area is a mix of industrial businesses, social service organizations, businesses, and experimental arts groups on the edge of Eureka’s Main Street district. Synapsis members are actively engaged with the community.

In 2006, Synapsis received funding from Humboldt Area Foundation for a Community Development Grant. With this grant and support from local businesses and volunteers, Synapsis held a two-day street festival and a parade on the theme "The Edge of the World" in October 2006. The program also offered six weeks of free/pay-what-you-can arts classes for homeless/low-income citizens prior to the festival.

Currently, Synapsis members are working with other local groups to host ongoing neighborhood meetings and community forums. This project is intended to instigate and maintain a diverse dialogue about the development of the West End Neighborhood. The West End Cultural Program is as action oriented as it is discussion oriented. We believe that all people have the right to be involved in their place. We believe that hands-on, physical involvement in shaping the world is a necessary aspect of being. We believe that inclusiveness and diversity make the world a more interesting place. We do not have it all figured out, but we hope to create a more lively sense of place in the West End area through our actions.

Partners in the West End Cultural Program include The Studio, The Placebo, Empire Squared, St. Vincent DePaul, the Northcoast Co-op, and other local groups.

All interested people are welcome to become involved in this project.  Please contact Synapsis if you would like to participate!
